Goodbye Bowie.

I had to put my best friend down Friday night.
Bowie's been sick for the past month and, even though I took him to the vet one month ago, I didn't know he was in the pain he was in. He had a leak in his intestines that gave his abdomen a lot of horrible bacteria. The only two options I had were to pay for a surgery that would cost $4,000 (up to $10,000) that was only a 50/50% recovery... or put him down. The vet showed me that the surgery wouldn't be the best way to go because Bowie was already so sick. Some days he wouldn't eat and the days that he did, he threw it up. Most days for the past month, he would lay around with no motivation and he went from 85lbs to 65lbs.
It was absolutely, the most terrible, heart-breaking decision that I ever had to make in my entire life. I'm going to miss you Bowie, but knowing you're not in pain anymore makes me a little more positive. I just wish we had more time. I'm so grateful for the support of friends that I have here in Chicago. Bowie was extremely loved. I had my best friends come with me to the emergency room for his last moments and I am so, so, so grateful that I had that. I wouldn't trade them for anyone.
With this said, Bird Trouble is going to slowly be coming back. My pain has been directed into me remembering that sewing is a great way to take my mind off things and to take my stress away. My dad also just sent me a new laptop (thanks dad) and a camera cord so that I can update daily.
I appreciate every one's comments in advance. I also want to tell you how excited I am, even though it came through the wrong circumstances, that I will be returning to the blog/etsy/flickr/twitter world in a short time.

  8. OH NO! That made me tear up. One of our pugs, Princess, has bladder stones which will cost up to $3000 to get removed (obviously I cannot afford this). This means once she starts showing pain, we are going to have to put her to sleep. Ugh, why are dogs so amazing? I never want mine to go away.

  9. Aw dear, I am SO sorry to hear about your doggie. My rabbit is my furry child also, and when he was sick, I was really sad. Now he is getting older. Appreciating the memories helps, and maybe, in the future, thinking about getting a new doggie, maybe an adopted dog that will appreciate you so much!
