Decorating with X-rays.

I´ve been decorating. I put up the x-rays I found with my friends in the abandoned evacuated town of Gilman, Colorado. Some random squirrel tails are sticking around. A colorful sugar skull - gifted by my parents. I put this colorful door down as my desk, making my craft room seem huge. Pictures of that later. I´ve been using my post-it notes to organize my blog posts // as seen in The Dainty Squid & inspired by. I thrifted a new-to-me 2lb postage scale a few weeks ago next to a little clay molded head of a dog I made in behalf of my late Bowie. I have three random human teeth next to bullet shells, a really sharp ring, & a pin with two of my best friends on it. The seashell jewelry box was at my parents house growing up. The photo of San Francisco makes my bones all happy for possibilities of the future.

I´m just so excited about my x-rays being up. They´re from the 1950s; with the date & name of the patient. I have a few more but I´m going to put those somewhere else in the apartment. Can´t hog all the coolness in my room! Plus, I really need to work on the rest of the apartment.

Wears : Lavender 90's Dress

Just a simple casual outfit post for today! This weekend is a packed one because of a short weekend and Father's Day. Tomorrow, I'm heading toward my grandparent's house to hang out. I'm not sure what we're doing yet but it's always something pretty chill. We'll probably get some Mexican food and head to my grandparent's house to relax our bellies!

I wore this outfit to work the other day. The dress is newly thrifted and I had to simply take off the shoulder pads to wear it, but the length was perfect. It's a little big on me so I paired it with a simple brown waist belt so it would hold me a little better. My sandals are from one of my favorite vintage shops in the city. They're really comfortable but you know what's funny... they're a little small on me! My back heel sliiiightly hangs over, but do I care? Nope.

Wears:
Lavender floral 90's dress from the thrift store : $2.00
Braided rope and leather sandals from Shangri La Vintage. They're super 70's! : Can't remember the price, but I think $15 - $20!
Brown leather backpack from the thrift store : $8.00! A steal.

Meet: a vintage hat.

I've had this vintage hat for a few years now. It's delicate and the beads are falling off. The tulle is ripped in places but I still wear it now and then. I think it's a great thing to have on the wall. The texture and colors of it are inspiring.

xoxo,
Alexz

mondays thrifted finds

every monday, i'm going to try to feature some of my recent thrifted finds.

today, we went to the dog park, power cleaned parts of the apartment, took some photos for my soon-to-be {studio sunday} feature over at Robbielee's blog, some pictures of the new clutches for the shop, and took a little cat nap. no time to go thrifting but that's okay because i'm quite content in my bedroom watching Footloose with the window wide open. it's beautiful outside so i plan on trying taking Ty to the dog park again.

here's a short collection of thrifted items that i have around my nook. enjoy!

the owl ring was given to me by my wonderful boyfriend. he always knows what i like!

hoping everyone is having a great start to the week!

This past weekend's find.

As usual, James and I went thrifting this past weekend right outside the city and into the suburbs where I grew up. I love going to the suburbs and I wish I could do it more often (not with these gas prices!) because it always brings back this nostalgia that I can't resist. There's this one antique mall that I've been going to since high school and I ALWAYS find something amazing there.
Of course, I left with something this past weekend that I HAD to have and I HAVE to share it with you guys (because I'm sure my co-workers, my friends, and my boyfriend are all sick of me talking about it).
EMPHASIS ON THE HAD AND HAVE TO. Ok, ok, ok. Drum rolls, please.

BAM!!!!! That sweet faux fur cape. Seriously...... seriously. I saw it on a hanger leaning on a fence/aka. prop and I stopped, felt my heart palpitate a little, and screamed. I made James put it on me because I probably would have screamed more. It was like giving a 5 year old a chocolate covered banana... if they loved chocolate bananas like I do.
There's no brand... making it a huge mystery to me and I keep making up scenarios in my head about the person/people who owned it before me. Almost Famous, anyone?
The zipper trim and the collar is a black soft leather and the lining is just a simple black silk. Next to the entire amazingness of it (great grammar, I know), I really love the zipper pull. I'll have to take a better picture but it's this huge gunpowder metal lean and long rectangle.
A little secret? This only cost me $25. Can we say, "smiles?"!!!!!!!!!?
:) :) :) :)

Other than that, I've been working long hours at my day job, waking up late every day, feeling airy as I try to break my coffee addiction, doodling a lot of new design ideas, getting my hair done like Peg Bundy, and acting like Cousin It when I'm alone at night.

Until we meet again,
Alexz.

Hello stranger!

Before you yell at me for not posting in over.... well, I don't even want to know how long it's been...
let me tell you something...

SCHOOL'S OUT FOR THE SUMMER!
(but no, not forever and no, it hasn't been blown to pieces.)

Anyway, there's been a lot of things going on lately! Here's a short and sweet list:
  • Applied for an apartment to move in June 15th! I can't wait.
  • Helped my friend, Jesi, with dressing her models at her fashion show at the Griffin Lounge in Chicago.
  • A lot of nostalgic Midwest adventures.
  • A lot of antiquing and thrifting!!!
  • Getting my hair highlighted by my friend, Dome, in hopes of going lighter for the warm weather.
  • Gave up on that Master Cleanse. I did it for a day and it wasn't hard (I did feel good that day- really energetic and awake). Anthony did it for 4 days and on my 2nd day, we wanted an omelette. So, we ate an omelette, hahah. I'm going to try again with Anna when we move into our new place.
As for blogging, I'm hoping I can find time to post again tomorrow during the day and then one more time before the end of the week.

And then in the world of Bird Trouble. I'm going to be at the Wolf Flea Market this Sunday (May 23rd) at the Allstate Arena (formally known at the Rosemont theater), hanging out in the 88 degree weather with AJ and Anthony, and selling my stuff. AJ will be selling his paintings and Anthony will be selling some stuff... I'm not too sure. So if you're in Chicago, come and try to find "The A Team" in the giant crowd!

Now onto the fun stuff!
I went to my favorite antique store yesterday. VOLO ANTIQUE MALL! It's so amazing, huge, amazing, awesome, sweet, and huge. Antique dream land. Check out the website and visit it if you're in the Chicago-area... it's worth the drive!

Here are my finds:
[My friend Dan got me this because it didn't fit him. Favorite bracelet ever.]

[I think this necklace is just so unique and I love the color. Also, check out dem nailz.]

[Yes, that is a scale. Yes, I screamed when I saw it. Yes, it was a loud scream.]

[I need to fix their tails and touch up their noses but I couldn't resist.]

[THE BIGGEST AND HAPPIEST SQUIRREL I'VE EVER SEEN. Yes, I screamed louder when I saw this than when I saw the scale. Another cross-stitch and a reemer.]

[Vintage fabric, 2 thermos to add to the collection, a beautiful cross-stitch, and the squirrels.]

[More scarfs and The Car's Shake it Up vinyl.]

That was fun! Okay, tomorrow's post (hopefully it'll be posted) will be about mine and my friend Laurie's Midwest adventure from yesterday. Have a wonderful Thursday night!

Oh yeah, and to the new followers... HI & WELCOME!

Today I went...

Hello Tuesday! It was so nice outside today! That is until it started raining, but at least it isn't snowing anymore. I went to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory with two of my best friends, Christina and Mark. We stuffed our faces and then walked around the mall until Christina had to go to work. After she went to work, I really wanted to stay outside because it was beautiful, so I went to one of my favorite antique stores!

Here is what I found...

SDC16309
SDC16314
This aqua quilted fabric storage box. The color really stole my heart and it's perfect for organizing my jewelry.

SDC16316
I found some vintage green buttons. You can never have enough button :). Two Old Style pins that say You Got Style. I'm going to give one to my friend and keep one for myself. Another pin that says "A Pirates Life" with a sparrow, hearts, and flowers... it's not vintage but it was only 50 cents. I also found this Marilyn Monroe book.

SDC16321
I also found this set of nesting dolls. They're in PERFECT condition and they're so adorable. I love them. I was really excited when I found them and I have to find the perfect place for them.

SDC16307
Then I found this great shirt with a bunch of anchors and compasses on it. It's the perfect weight for the summer! I can't wait for summer.

Tomorrow after class, I'm going to go to a few thrift stores and two antique stores so hopefully I'll find a cute typewriter and some cute squirrels! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Tuesday and be sure to check out my 10 Things I Love Monday post.

Today I went...

Today, I woke up early to eat breakfast with my mom and her cousin at Burnt Toast. I had eggs benedict and hashbrowns... and boy, was it delicious. Then they dropped me off at home so I could do some reading for class but I was baffled about how sunny it was and how the sun felt on my skin (it's been freezing here.. I'll catch any sun that I can), I just wanted to spend more time outside. So I took Bowie for a walk, came back, hopped into my car and went thrifting!

One of the thrift stores was having a 50% off sale!! I found some fabric but that's it. It's more of a fancier thrift store with more mature clothing/furniture. They always give me funny looks when I go there. I don't know why? I'm not funny looking :). After being a little disappointed there, I decided to do a bit of a longer drive to go to my favorite thrift store... and it's a good thing I did!!

This is what I found:

thriftday1

1) A vintage thermo. I actually found two but the other one was just a plain dark blue so I put it down.
2) A polaroid camera WITH still 10 shots of film in it!!! You can imagine how excited I was.
3) This HUGE embroidery hoop. I'm stuck in between two things: simply putting a pretty fabric in it OR a solid color and doing a huge embroidery project. Either way, I can't wait to hang it near my craft space.
4) AND She's So Unusual record by Cyndi Lauper! Unfortunately, it didn't have the poster in it but it was pretty much calling my name because I was blasting that same album in the car yesterday.

I also found more fabric but I didn't take pictures of them yet. I'm in a rush because class is in an hour and a half!
I hope everyone's having a wonderful Tuesday! I'll leave you with a photo of me and a good friend of mine.... ;)
